Archived NEWS from the National Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
The Youth Temperance Council (YTC), the youth division of The Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) is sponsoring a contest for college students. We will accept original creations of a 15 or 30-second TV or radio commercial or website creation which contains a message designed to discourage youth from consuming alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs including marijuana, or tobacco. The product must be of Christian character and represent the values and goals of the WCTU. The submission will be reviewed and the producer of the most outstanding presentation will be awarded a $500.00 cash award. The winning presentation will be promoted nationwide by the YTC and WCTU and will be judged highly for its mass appeal message to youth nationwide and promotion of abstinence using new and innovative themes. Entries will be accepted from college students majoring in multimedia, radio or TV production, public relations, advertising or related fields. The deadline for submission is Friday June 30, 2006. All entries become property of the WCTU and the decision of the judges is final. The WCTU was founded in 1874 by women concerned about the protection of home and family.

Guest speakers included Dr. Ann P. Streissguth, a leading authority on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), who addressed the convention on Thursday morning, August 3. Dr. George J. Van Komen, an outstanding medical doctor well-versed in alcohol-related medical problems and President of the Alcohol Council on Alcohol Problems, addressed the convention on Saturday afternoon, August 5. |
